NDC is not the only place where Michael Byrnes knows what it means to be part of a strong team.

During the workday, Michael serves as an Assistant Superintendent at NDC Construction. After hours, he trades his hard hat for a lacrosse helmet and takes the field as captain of the NDC Hard Hats, a Tampa Bay club lacrosse team sponsored by NDC.

For Michael, lacrosse has long been something he loves. And this season gave him plenty of reasons to enjoy it.

The Hard Hats started strong, but Florida summer weather quickly complicated things. Rainouts and scheduling conflicts stacked up, forcing the team to squeeze several makeup games into the final weeks of the season.

Still, the Hard Hats kept showing up.

While other teams sometimes struggled to field a full roster, Michael’s team consistently had players ready to go. Some even volunteered to help opposing teams that were short on players so the games could continue.

That camaraderie is part of what made this season Michael’s favorite yet.

The team had talent, but more importantly, Michael said it was simply a great group of people who wanted to be there and genuinely enjoyed playing together. He also had the added bonus of getting to take the field alongside his younger brother again.

And all that showing up paid off.

The Hard Hats finished the regular season undefeated at 6-0 and entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. After winning their first playoff matchup, they ultimately fell in the championship game, closing out the season with an impressive 7-1 record.

For NDC, sponsoring the Hard Hats was about more than putting the company name on a jersey.

Through Trust From the Ground Up, NDC’s corporate philanthropy program, the company looks for meaningful opportunities to support the people, causes, and organizations that matter to its employees.

In Michael’s case, that meant getting behind a sport and a team he cares deeply about.

And because no team called the NDC Hard Hats should be without the real thing, NDC also made sure every player received a hard hat of their own — a small touch that quickly became a team favorite.

Congratulations to Michael and the entire NDC Hard Hats team on an incredible season.

We’re proud to cheer you on, both on and off the field.
