Preserving the Past and Connecting Neighborhoods

Preserving the Past and Connecting Neighborhoods

NDC Construction built the original Bradenton Riverwalk (Phase I) in partnership with architect Kimley-Horn, transforming the city’s downtown waterfront into a vibrant destination. The City of Bradenton brought NDC Construction back to execute Phase II—an expansion that required balancing historic preservation with modern recreation.

During Phase I, a 1.25-mile Riverwalk was created that includes a skate park, sand volleyball courts, an interactive fountain, a fishing pier, a kayak launch, and a gathering pavilion, along with extensive site lighting upgrades. The waterfront transformation quickly became a beloved hub for locals and visitors alike.

Phase II of the project, known as Riverwalk East, adds approximately two miles and incorporates the storied park of Manatee Mineral Springs, linking downtown to East Bradenton’s historic neighborhoods. Knowing this is one of the region’s oldest recorded parks, the project team took great care during design and construction to ensure landscape updates preserved the rich history of Mineral Springs.

The multi-year Phase II expansion created a passive park with shelters, small gathering spaces, and open flex lawns along the riverfront. Features include a scenic boardwalk, an observation tower, picnic areas, gazebos, historical plaques, and public art focused on the area’s history and environment. The project also integrated a natural shoreline into the park space.
