Strategic Collaboration and Value Engineering Create Savings and Success
Constructing a new K-8 school from the ground up means meeting the needs of tiny tykes and their middle school siblings. From bathroom fixtures at varying heights to creating a special school drop-off area for little ones who may require extra time, this school is designed with families in mind.
A central courtyard offers a scenic view from five primary buildings, which are all connected by covered walkways. The 40-acre site also features a central energy plant. The project marked a milestone as the first new K-8 school built from the ground up in the district’s history.
Through close collaboration with the architect, HKS, Inc., and value engineering, NDC Construction achieved $7 million in savings for the project. Making the savings even more noteworthy, an aggressive construction schedule demanded that NDC Construction average $4.5 million of work in place each month for 17 consecutive months—a pace the team sustained to complete the first phase on time. Meeting this deadline was critical to the community as families kicked off the new school year.

[NDC Construction] worked closely with our team to manage evolving schedules and resolve challenges without compromising quality [or] cost control. Their ability to execute detail scopes while maintaining momentum makes them a strong partner in any high-impact public project.
