Resilient Infrastructure Keeps First Responders Mission-Ready

Resilient Infrastructure Keeps First Responders Mission-Ready

When West Manatee Fire & Rescue determined an aging fire station was outdated and no longer able to meet operational demands, they turned to NDC Construction and Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc., to build their new state-of-the-art facility.

The project began with the demolition of the existing 7,696-square-foot fire station and the adjacent building. Site work was then completed and underground utilities installed. NDC Construction used design-build delivery to ensure the project’s important deadlines were achieved.

The resulting 9,600-square-foot facility incorporates innovative features that enhance operational readiness. On-site fueling and additional parking for emergency vehicles—including trailers—facilitate streamlined deployment. Three apparatus bays and dedicated space for equipment storage ensure firefighting gear is organized and accessible.

A modern kitchen and fitness center support the team’s health and well-being. A dining area, break room, and dayroom provide areas to congregate, while eight dormitories offer vital sleep spaces, and separate offices and laundry facilities round out the station.

The facility is also equipped with stringent safety and security specifications, including specialized hurricane hardening measures. These protections ensure that when severe weather threatens the community, firefighters and their essential equipment are ready to respond.
