Upgraded Station to Enhance Around-the-Clock Service
Sitting proudly on Cedar Street in Ellenton, Florida, is the oldest operational fire station in Manatee County: North River Fire District Station #3. Having been through years of wear and tear, it was time for upgrades that met today’s expectations of first responders.
The team took a close look at the needs of Station #3 and its personnel. Together, NRFD, NDC Construction, and WJ Architects, developed a vision for a facility that better supports the firefighters and emergency personnel who serve the community around the clock.
Working within a tight timeline, the team leveraged the existing station’s structure as the foundation for a comprehensive renovation. The project began with interior demolition, creating a blank slate for a more functional, efficient environment designed to meet the evolving needs of the station and its service area.
Upon completion, the 4,340-square-foot station will feature upgraded living quarters with five private bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a Battalion Chief suite, and dedicated office space. A modern kitchen, dayroom, and shared living areas will provide first responders the comfort they deserve to recharge between calls. Durable finishes, including polished concrete, luxury vinyl plank flooring, tile, painted masonry walls, and exposed ceilings, were selected to withstand the demands of continuous use.
Behind the walls, new HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, low-voltage, and exhaust ventilation systems will enhance the station’s functionality, reliability, and long-term performance.
By investing in the modernization of Station #3, the fire district is ensuring its workforce will have the facilities and resources needed to best serve its community for years to come.
